What We Do

Amblyopia  (Lazy eye)

2-5% of adults have permanent vision loss because they were not diagnosed and treated as a child. It is imperative  children have Vision Screening. Many kids have uneven refractive errors, and the brain shuts off the vision in one eye. This is reversible up until approximately the age of 9.  For younger children, best vision is achieved more quickly than older children.

Exotropia (Eyes turning out)

A diagnosis is made to confirm the eye is structurally normal or abnormal An eye turned out is often intermittent and treatments can include glasses.  Treatment can include observation over a long time. If diagnosis is other, then the child or adult will be observed. This is considered elective surgery if necessary.

Genetic

There are many diseases which have a genetic basis. These include Downs Syndrome, Albinism, and other Chromosomal abnormalities.  Children with seizures or other neurological issues, Cerebral Palsy or other neuromuscular diseases should be screened. The eye forms in the first eight weeks in utero and Dr. Gallin is expert at diagnosing and treating. Kids are treated with kindness, patience,
and respect.

Pseudostrabismus

Pseudostrabismus generally occurs in infants and toddlers where the nasal bridge has not yet developed.

This is the optical illusion of eyes turned inward and is of great concern to new parents of babies. Nationally, half of the children under the age of one who are evaluated for crossing  have this diagnosis. This is natural and common as the baby's nose has not yet developed and the skin that covers the nose side of the eyes provides the optical illusion of cross eyed.
